Documents that immigration files usually contain

Residence permit, work permit, citizenship and family reunification applications in Turkey are built on documents issued somewhere else, and those documents have to arrive in Turkish. The recurring set includes birth certificates, marriage and divorce certificates, criminal record extracts, proof of income or employment, bank statements, health insurance documents, diplomas where the permit type depends on qualifications, and identity documents. For applications concerning children, custody documents and parental consent are frequently added.

Almost all of these need to be sworn translations, and many need notary certification. Documents issued abroad usually need to carry an apostille from the country that issued them before they arrive in Turkey, and that step cannot be done here afterwards. Arriving in Istanbul with an unapostilled foreign certificate is a common and expensive discovery.

Order of operations

The sequence for a foreign document is: obtain the document, apostille it in the issuing country, bring it to Turkey, then have it translated and the translation notarised. Doing the translation first, in the country of origin, sometimes works and sometimes does not, because a translation produced abroad may not be accepted here unless it comes through a sworn translator registered in Turkey. If you are already abroad and unsure, ask before paying for a translation you may have to buy twice.

For documents issued in Turkey and going to a foreign consulate, the order runs the other way: sworn translation, notary certification, then apostille here.

Consistency across the whole file

An immigration file is read as a set, and inconsistency between documents is a common reason for a request for further information. If your surname appears in three transliterations across a passport, a marriage certificate and a diploma, the file raises questions that have nothing to do with your eligibility. The same applies to dates rendered in different conventions and to place names.

Because of this we prefer to translate a whole file together rather than document by document. It lets us hold names, dates and institution names consistent across everything, and it lets us spot a missing apostille or an expired extract before it is submitted rather than after.

We prepare documents. We do not advise on eligibility, do not complete application forms on your behalf, and cannot predict the outcome of an application. Those are matters for the relevant authority or a qualified immigration lawyer.

Frequently asked questions

Which documents do I need translated for a residence permit?

It depends on your application, but commonly birth/marriage certificates, income or bank documents and criminal-record checks. Send your list and we will advise.

Do immigration documents need to be notarized?

Turkish authorities usually require notarized translations. Documents issued abroad often also need an apostille from the issuing country.

Can you translate the whole application at once?

Yes. Submitting the full set together keeps names and details consistent and speeds up your process.
